How To Stay Awake Jet Lag

Most long-distance travelers will experience some jet lag. And if you are going to stay in your new destination for only a day or two, you’re typically better off sticking with your home

  • Stay hydrated, as dehydration can intensify the effects of jet lag. This means it’s best to avoid caffeine and alcohol, which can exacerbate the dehydration already caused by sitting for hours in moisture-sapping aeroplane cabins. Drink water, and lots of it.
  • Make yourself stay awake. This will generate a very robust sleep drive and may counteract some of the issues related to a misaligned circadian rhythm. Much like pulling an all-nighter, your desire for sleep will be exceptionally strong if you stay awake for a prolonged period, no matter what time zone you're in.
